Echoes of Utah, red stoneware clay, black mason stain, wild clay slip, underglaze, 2024
This piece is a visual journal of my first trip to Utah, a place that completely took my breath away.
Wheel-thrown using marbled red clay and black mason stain, the vase echoes the rich textures and bold contrasts of Zion National Park’s desert landscape. Each painted section tells part of the story: my hike to the top of Angels Landing, ancient petroglyphs at Parowan Gap, sweeping canyon vistas, and finally, the quiet beauty of snow-covered mountains as I made my way to Salt Lake City.
It’s a piece about awe, movement, and memory, capturing not just the terrain, but how it felt to stand in those spaces for the first time.
